The Coach Selection Committee is pleased to confirm the head coach positions for our Midget T1 and Bantam T1 teams have been filled for the 2018-19 season.
Midget T1 will once again be lead by Chris Kueber.
Chris spent last season as an assistant coach for our Bantam T1 program, after guiding the Midget T1 team as head coach the previous two seasons. We are excited to have Chris return to the Midget program and share his wealth of knowledge and experience he has gained during his many years at JDF, while continuing his work for the association in a coach mentor role and program development. His understanding of what it takes to make the jump from minor hockey to the junior ranks has helped a number of players achieve their goals of making that next step, and is another reason Chris is a perfect fit for our Midget group.
Bantam T1 will be lead by Tyler Matheson.
After a junior career that included time with the Victoria Grizzlies and Cowichan Capitals of the BCHL, as well as the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL, Tyler spent 3 years playing minor pro hockey in the US. Upon his return to Victoria, he took up coaching as an assistant with the Grizzlies and moved into a head coach role, first with SMHA’s Bantam T1 team and last season with the Westshore Wolves of the VIJHL, finishing second in the South Division. Tyler’s experience as a coach and player will be invaluable for our young players learning what it takes to make it to the next level and we are excited to have him back in the Grizzly fold.
JDF strives to provide the best program possible at all levels of the minor hockey experience. The execution of these programs are carried out by the people who coach our young players and guide them through their years of involvement in the game. To that end, we continue to work diligently at not only finding the best candidates for these positions, but assisting them in their development along the way. Naming Chris and Tyler to lead these two teams is a great start and we look forward to adding more quality individuals to our coaching ranks in the weeks ahead.
