ShareThe Juan de Fuca Minor Hockey Association wishes to acknowledge the tremendous effort and dedication of our many coaches who generously give their time each season to teach and coach our hockey players. This page is designed to give new coaches and returning coaches resources and information.
Below are the minimum coaching certification requirements. All coaches on the bench must be certified by December 1st of each playing year. If you do not have the appropriate coursing, it is important to sign up for courses early in the season. If you do not have the required courses by December 1st, you will not be allowed on the bench; this includes the on-line Respect in Sport Program (formerly Speak Out) and a criminal record check.
Coaches, please be reminded that as of December 1, 2008, it became mandatory that all coaches must wear helmets for on-ice activities.
Financially, JDFMHA will reimburse a coach upon full completion, ie-homework completed as well, of the coaches course, upon approval from BC Hockey. The cost of obtaining the Respect in Sport course is the team's responsibility.
Please Note: Be sure all players are eligible to play at JDFMHA; if you play an ineligible player, your team can be disqualified.
Regarding your criminal record check - a letter is needed from our Association by the RCMP to ensure that you are a volunteer for JDFMHA. Without this letter, there is a $50 charge for a criminal record check. To get this letter, contact jdfmha@shaw.ca. Criminal record checks need to be completed every two years.
JDFMHA has a 'library' resource for coaches. Hockey Canada manuals are available for Initiation, Novice, Atom, PeeWee & Goaltenders. If you are interested in signing these out of the JDFMHA office, please contact jdfmha@shaw.ca
As well, JDFMHA has a video camera that is available to sign out to coaches. If you are interested in signing this out, please contact jdfmha@shaw.ca
