2025 JDF Nominations

Head Manager

Sarah Hannay

I've been on the executive for the past year working as the Risk Manager. I inherited a portfolio that had been largely ignored for a few seasons. I took the information and the program given to me, and had it completely up to date for all JDF players and team safeties by the end of October.

In addition, I've been managing my son's sports teams since 2013, including 10 seasons of hockey, lacrosse, soccer and ball hockey. I've also been team safety and treasurer over the seasons. I'm highly organized and quick to respond. I like to look for solutions and to have issues dealt with swiftly and fairly.

I've also worked with children in a classroom setting since 1996, mainly with young people who have serious behaviour disorders and have many years' experience with conflict resoltion. I have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken and am very organized.

I would be honored to work for the families of the association to make sure everyone feels heard and supported, and to make sure every family gets to share in the love of hockey

Jeff Eves

My name is Jeff Eves and I am running for the position of JdFMHA Head Manager. I have loved hockey all my life and have been involved with recreational hockey for 24 years within the Canadian Armed Forces. I am currently serving in my 25th year in the Regular Forces as a Military Police Member. My current job is the Unit Sergeant Major at the Military Police Unit at CFB Esquimalt (Naden). I manage and mentor a staff of 35 personnel including Military Police members/officers, civilian employees including clerical workers, dispatchers, and other security personnel. My unit is responsible for the policing and security of all Department of National Defense property throughout Vancouver Island (minus 19 Wing Comox) & mainland BC.

My Background with JdFMHA

My family has been an active participants of JdFMHA since 2015-2016 season when my son was 6 and started playing in the U7 (Initiation) division. This upcoming season will be his 11th season with JdFMHA and his 2nd year of U18.

I have been volunteering with JdFMHA since the 2018-19 season starting off as an assistant coach and continued in that role through his first season of U13 (20-21). As my son got older and his skills surpassed mine (wasn’t hard), I changed my focus to support JdFMHA on the Executive Committee as a member at large for the last four seasons. My first three seasons were in the role as the tournament coordinator. I oversaw the operational organization of the first JdFMHA hosted tournaments post COVID. I remained in that role until the end of the 2023-24 season. This past season I tasked to be the U15 divisional manager which included two representative and three recreational teams.

On top of being a member at large, for the past three seasons (2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25) I have all managed the representative teams my son played on. Each of those teams represented JdFMHA at multiple tournaments including three in the USA.

With my background as an accomplished leader within the CAF and my years of experience with JdF as the tournament coordinator, divisional manager and team manager I believe I would be the ideal candidate to fulfill the roles & responsibilities expected of the JdFMHA Head Manager.

VP-Ops

Justin Simmons

Justin spent his formative years playing hockey on the East Coast before joining the military. He has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University. He has served in the Royal Canadian Navy since 2006 having deployed around the world, served in National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and having been selected for command appointments throughout his career.

Having lived across the country and experienced several different hockey associations, Justin decided to give back to the hockey community as a Division Manager for JDF. In this capacity, he was Director-at-large for U11 and U15 since 2021. This past year he was the Head Coach for a U18 team that went on to win both the VIAHA South Island Recreation Championship for the season and the VIAHA South Island Pool A Playoff Championship.

Now that his children are finished with minor hockey, Justin is looking to use his experience, both in hockey and as a senior officer in the military, to serve his community in a greater capacity.

Ian Taylor

JDF Minor Hockey has been an integral part of my family’s lives for over a decade. I have loved my time, not just as a parent but as a dedicated volunteer. For the past five years, I have proudly served as Vice President of Operations for JDFMHA, working alongside an incredible team to support the development of our players, coaches, referees, and families.

Beyond my role on the Board, I have spent 11 years coaching at all age levels—Timbits through U18—across both Recreation and Representative hockey. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within our association at every level of play.

My strengths lie in accountability, communication, problem-solving, and implementing creative solutions to the complex issues we’ve faced as an association. Whether it’s improving operational efficiency (with less and less ice every season), enhancing the hockey experience for all families, or addressing the evolving needs of our teams, I am committed to finding solutions that bring real value to our membership.

As a proud hockey parent with two sons in JDF Minor Hockey, my family is fully invested in this great community. If re-elected, I will continue to work hard to ensure that every player—whether they are in Timbits, Recreation, or Representative hockey—benefits from a well-run, forward-thinking association that prioritizes development, fairness, and a love for the game.

I appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to serve JDF Minor Hockey.

Thank you for your vote!
